I’m delighted to report that my travels through Iceland with my best friend were more magical than I ever could’ve dreamed!

We saw bright rainbows beaming out of waterfalls…brilliant aqua icebergs…massive glaciers…crystalline glacier lakes…otherworldly lava formations…gorgeous natural vistas…beautiful Icelandic horses…stunning architecture…steaming natural hot springs…

And best of all…the amazing Northern Lights!

Our guide made it clear from the start that seeing the aurora wasn’t guaranteed during our tour. (It’s nature afterall ~ not a hologram with an on/off switch!)

So I chose to be fully present and appreciative of every single one of my Icelandic experiences…and if we did happen to witness the aurora for ourselves I’d count it as a wonderful bonus.

The fifth night of our 8 day tour we were finally treated to the transcendent experience of experiencing almost a full hour of the spectacular light phenomenon.

Looking up into the dark night sky under a full moon and seeing those mystical swirling light formations (made extra vibrant when viewed through a camera) was definitely a top 10 life moment for me.

Though it’s not promised, you increase your odds of seeing the Northern Lights with …

Planning ~ We chose October because there was a higher chance of witnessing the aurora then.
Guidance ~ Our tour guide knew the best places to go and was adept at watching weather trends and cloud cover to help us have a better chance of spotting them.
Patience ~ The truth is, if you stay in Iceland long enough you will 100% see the lights.
